The Boy and I have been living in a total dump. We have only been there for just over 4 months, and in that time it has been problem after problem. When we first moved in I had an asthma attack on the day and had to go to hospital because there was that much dust, dog hair and general crap lying around the house. Then there was the daily battle with the cockroaches which were coming from the hole under the sink that opens to the ground below. The list goes on but I really don't want to think about it. Needless to say we were longing for the day when we wouldn't have to live there anymore. We are so grateful we only signed a 6 month lease even though we wanted 12. What were we thinking?
Well, we were (and still are) very much in love. All we knew was that we wanted to be together every single day and come home to each other and wake up next to each other. We wanted more than just the weekends. We made the decision to live together, the following weekend we spend the Saturday driving from inspection to inspection. We saw at least 8 places. We walked in, looked around and walked out. We didn't open any cupboards or drawers, we didn't wipe our finger along the bench tops, and we didn't study the condition of the carpet. We held hands and gazed at each other. Monday morning at 5am we filled out the various applications forms as quickly as we could. The Boy took them to work to scan and email. By lunchtime we had the offer. I called him up and he confirmed that he wanted to do it, so we did. That was it. The papers were signed and we had the keys. We walked in, looked around, did a lot of poking and realised we had a lot to learn about what to do at an Open For Inspection.
However we survived it all, and it has made us a lot stronger, and on the weekend (which will be another blog with pics) we moved into a lovely, stunning, very very clean "penthouse" unit/townhouse. No bugs, no spiders, no cockroaches, no rats anywhere to be found, but only plush carpet, spotless bench tops, clean curtains and fresh air. I love it and I am looking forward to going home just to be there and hang out in such a nice space.
As we removed the last of our stuff out yesterday we looked at each other and wondered what on earth were we thinking. He smiled at me, hugged me and said "We were in love, and we still are".
